Omg, Ali this energy is a jolt of lightening and so hilarious I’ve been laughing out loud continuously and now everyone wondering what vines are erupting out of me rippling through this tram despite the pouring rains in Melbourne! Thank you for your wild words ❤️🙏✨🍇
Loved every second of your story, Ali. I had to look up 'benevolent anthropomorphism,' and it reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors (1986). Thank you for yet another thought provoking story, with a deep well for the imagination.
Thank you for reading! Little Shop of Horrors was a big part of my childhood, so that makes sense. There will be more stories, now that I'm bound by soul contract with a plant.
As a women who didn't learn about gardening till very late in life and how for a decade or so tried to grow vegetables in a traditional bed (fighting the weeds - which are predominately a type of morning glory called bind weed around here) I understand the struggle and the tenacity of plants that have a mind of their own.
A while ago I quite trying to plant things in an organized fashion - stuff still grows in my yard - It's actually very green - but lettuce and flowers grow in the grass and tomatillos grow where they damn well please. I use sticks as markers to keep my husband from mowing them over.
In a space that had 1 lonely tree 6 years ago, now, today there are close to 100 trees in various stages of growth. My goal is a forest in my backyard.
All this to say, I quit trying to direct my garden I just let it be all the ridiculousness it wants and try to keep my potted flowers alive for the season.

Thank you, Emily! Now that I’m being held captive by a malevolent plant, there will be more!

Lol, I hope you hadn't licked your fingers, Ali? They are poisonous, particularly the seeds, which contain hallucinogenic toxins. Great piece 🌿🌿
You need a couple of hundred seeds to make it a worthwhile experiment apparently.
Very funny 🤣 did you smoke the seeds?
Really enjoyed this read ❤️
Thank you Andrea! I must get around to uploading some more writing! Writing is one thing, sharing is another matter.
